Giving £636,303.55 to charities
We believe that good employee programmes, such as Give as You Earn and matched funding, must have the following attributes to be successful:
- support employees doing what they would already do naturally
- follow external trends in giving
- are just another pay and benefit
- benefit the employee as well as the organisation we are trying to help
In 2012 1,637 of our employees and pensioners gave money to charity via our tax-efficient, company-assisted scheme, Give as you earn. A total of £636,303.55 (including our matching) was donated to 359 charities close to employee’s hearts. We have 506 employees who have their own charity account to make donations to their favourite charities.
Our employees top 10 favourite charities:
- Cancer Research UK
- Save the Children
- British Heart Foundation
- Dogs Trust
Our scheme allows employees to donate money each month through their pay before tax is deducted. We matched up to the first £25 of their monthly contribution and pay any administrative costs.
This year we have over 13% of our employees take part in the scheme. We see this as a valuable contribution to providing the charitable sector with unrestricted income to continue their good work.
